What part do I sing?
f you have never sung four-part harmony, barbershop
style, you probably want to know what is so special about
picking a part. We do not have the usual soprano and alto
designations. We have these four parts:
LEAD sings the melody line most of the time; the
lead sings with authority and the lead section often
determines the chorus's personality.
TENOR sings harmony, usually above the lead part.
BARITONE sings harmony, sometimes above and
sometimes below the lead; is said to be the "glue" between
the lead and bass parts.
BASS sings a low, full harmony part that rounds
out the barbershop sound.
Each new guest will spend a few minutes with the director
who will help you to determine which part is best for you.
This is NOT an audition, just making sure you start off on
the best place for you. You may want to try more than one
part. Just speak with the director.
Do I have to audition?
You can visit as many times as you like but to become an
official Sweet Adeline singer, an audition is required.
Auditioning for the Sound Celebration Chorus is quite
simple. To audition, you must have been to 3 rehearsals out
of 5. When YOU are ready, let the director or membership
chairman know. This is not a painful process!!! At the
audition there will be a person from each part for you to
sing with, including your own. The Sound Celebration Chorus
is looking for someone who can sing and hold her part
against the 3 other parts.
After all, this is a
learning/teaching organization.
