Sound Celebration Chorus is a proud member of Sweet Adelines International, the largest women's singing organization in the world. We have been entertaining audiences and sharing the art form of 4-part acappella harmony, Barbershop style, since chartering in August 1953. Barbershop harmony is one of only four musical styles to originate in the USA. (The other three are the Negro spiritual, the cowboy song, and jazz).
|
Our chorus is comprised of women who reside throughout central Illinois, including Springfield, Rochester, Mechanicsburg, Decatur, Elkhart, Virginia, North Pekin, Washington, Chatham, and Lincoln. Membership is open to all women who are able to carry a tune, fit into one of the four voice parts, and demonstrate evidence of a willingness to work to achieve both an individual and a group sound of high caliber. Auditions are on-going.

The mission of Sweet Adelines International is to be "A worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance." Sound Celebration Chorus contributes toward achieving that mission through weekly rehearsals and numerous community performances. In order to gauge our vocal/performance achievements, we participate in an annual regional contest where a panel of four judges scores our presentation and offers guidance for further education/achievement.
